QUETTA: A new polio case was reported in Pishin district of Balochistan by local health authorities on Monday.

Thus far, 12 polio cases have been reported this year in the province.

According to health department officials, the poliovirus was confirmed in a two-year-old baby girl whose samples had been taken on May 29 and May 31.

Her family residing in Pishin district had refused anti-poliovirus inoculation during a vaccination campaign, added the officials.

Since February the anti-polio vaccination drive in the province has been suspended in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, said the spokesman for the emergency operation centre.
