HYDERABAD, Sept 13: Farmers of Sindh, particularly of cotton and vegetable growers, have been advised to undertake pre-and post-rain measures to protect their crops from adverse effects of the current monsoon wave which may continue for two weeks.

The weather advisory service of the Pakistan meteorological department has said that in September, may see above-normal rainfall in the country.

According to the forecast, significant rains are expected during the next two weeks especially in lower Sindh’s Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta and Tharparkar districts.

The Sindh agriculture extension department in a statement issued here on Tuesday advised cotton and vegetable growers to drain out immediately standing rain water from the fields to save their crops.

It said picking in mature cotton crop be carried out immediately before possible rains and picked cotton be stored at covered place to prevent it from rain water.

The statement said picking of wet crop be avoided so that quality of cotton was not affected.

The ginners have been advised to make arrangements for proper covering of seed cotton lying open in their premises to protect it from rains and avoid damage to its quality.

WASA: The Water and Sanitation Agency announced on Tuesday that it was conducting a survey of commercial consumers for which separate teams have been appointed for three talukas of the Hyderabad district.
