HARIPUR: The district administration here on Friday imposed smart lockdown in six city areas following a sudden rise in coronavirus cases.

Official sources told mediapersons here that smart lockdown had now been implemented in at least 10 areas.

According to a notification issued from the office of deputy commissioner, Haripur, 16 new cases have been reported from Street No 5 of TIP Housing Society, 22 new cases from Mohallah Darband Sector No 4 in Khalabat Township and Mohallah opposite Khalabat Township police station,eight cases from Mohallah Kassran and Mohallah Katha in Kotnajibullah, and 21 Covid-19 positive cases in Mobeen Banda in Ghazi tehsil.

Following new cases, the administration has imposed smart lockdown for seven days in all the six localities of Harpur, starting from Friday (June 26).

SI SUSPENDED: A police sub-inspector was suspended for allegedly thrashing a petrolpump worker.

Khalid, an employee at Hazara Filing Station at Batrasi, Khanpur Road, had in a written complaint to DPO Haripur alleged that son of SI Mohammad Nawaz of city police station came on motorcycle without a face mask and insisted on refueling his bike.

The worker told him that the local police had banned sale of petrol to those not wearing mask.

The police officer’s son called his father by mobile phone. SI Mohammad Nawaz came with three constables and assaulted the worker physically. The police officer’s alleged misconduct was also recorded on the CCTV cameras. Taking action, DPO Ashfaq Anwar has suspended the SI.

MAN SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead and his body dumped in a ravine in Serae Nehmat Khan union council, police said.

Saddar SHO Shafiqur Rehman said that Qasim, 26, of Bandi Mian Pirdad village allegedly had illicit relation with a married woman of the same village. When the woman’s husband and father-in-law knew about this they forced her to call Qasim for visiting her on Thursday night.

According to the SHO, when Qasim reached there the woman’s husband Sajjad and his father Sher Mohammad allegedly opened fire at him, killing him on the spot.

On report of the deceased’s father the police registered a murder case against the three and have arrested them.

Meanwhile, A man died in a road accident here near Sirikot.

Ghazi police said on Friday that Abdul Mateen, 19, a resident of sector No 2 Khalabat Township, and his friend Noman were returning from Ghazi when the former lost control and the motorcycle fell into a ravine. Mateen died in the mishap while his friend escaped unhurt.
