RAWALPINDI: The prison authorities on Tuesday shifted three high profile convicts in the Dr Imran Farooq murder case to the high security prison in Sahiwal amid tight security on Tuesday.

The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) convicted the three accused — Syed Mohsin Ali, Moazzam Ali and Khalid Shamim — to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs1.2 million each in the murder case.

Dr Imran Farooq was a senior leader of Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM). He was found murdered near his residence in the UK in September 2010.

The three convicts were also members of MQM.

According to a senior official of the Punjab Prison Department, the convicts were shifted to ‘high security prison’ in Sahiwal as they were sentenced in the high profile murder case.

He said the convicts were driven to Sahiwal early Tuesday morning from Adiala jail amid tight security and Elite Force commandos escorted them.
