CHAGAI: The Assistant Commissioner of Dalbandin, Mohammad Javed Domki, has said the district administration has taken steps to maintain law and order in Chagai.

During a visit to the Levies posts near the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday, Mr Domki asked the Levies to be vigilant in order to avert any criminal activity along the border.

Talking to the personnel, he said the government was considering upgrading the basic structure of the Levies force on modern lines.

Missing man found dead

A bullet-riddled body was found near the Padag area of Chagai district on Sunday.

According to Levies officials, Noorullah, 40, had left his home on Friday with a rifle for hunting. But he went missing and finally his body was seen in a deserted area.

Assistant Commissioner Domki told Dawn that bullet marks were found on the body and initial investigations suggested that he had committed suicide as he was said to be mentally ill.

The body was handed over to heirs after the necessary procedures in a hospital.

Healthcare infrastructure

Balochistan Minister for Communications and Works Mir Mohammad Arif Mohammad Hassani has said the healthcare infrastructure is being upgraded in major towns and far-flung areas of Chagai district.

In a statement, Mr Hassani said 15 basic healthcare units would be established in the district while rural health centres in Nokundi and Chagai would be equipped with modern facilities.

Four emergency healthcare facilities will be set up along the RCD Highway in Taftan, Nokundi, Yakmach and Chehattar. “These centres will provide quick medical aid to the injured after road accidents. Two well-equipped hospitals will be built in the border town of Taftan,” he said.

Ambulances from the basic health units and rural health centres have been placed on standby to meet any untoward situation.

Joint action committee

Several political parties, including a few local alliances, have formed a joint action committee to address the problems of local populace pertaining to education, health, drinking water, electricity and law and order.

Addressing a press conference at Dalbandin Press Club, the newly elected chairman of the committee, Sardar Rafique Sher Sanjrani, termed the law and order situation in Chagai unsatisfactory and urged the local administration to maintain peace.

He criticised the local certificate-issuing committee, terming it biased.

He said the alliance would take up the issue of fake domiciles and other certificates with the deputy commissioner.
