SWABI: The district administration conducted anti-encroachment campaign in Shahmansoor and Anbar areas to recover public property here on Tuesday.
According to the administration officials, such an operation was earlier conducted in areas, including Shewa Adda, Razaar tehsil headquarters, district headquarters and Zaida region, but the campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.
An official said they had informed the shopkeepers to clear encroachments voluntarily, but they failed to follow the instruction, which forced the administration to clear the two areas.
Anjuman-i-Dukandaran district president Laiq Khan said they fully supported the operation, but would not allow targeting of the traders without any reason.
“We are cooperating with the officials and it has proved fruitful,” he told this correspondent.
KILLERS TRACED: The local police have traced the killers of an Afghan woman and arrested her husband and brother-in-law for poisoning her to death.
District police officer Imran Shahid told mediapersons on Tuesday that the two people were traced within 24 hours of the incident. The two had earlier pretended that she had committed suicide. The incident had occurred in Gohati refugee camp.
He said the police had arrested Bajratullah, husband of the deceased, and his brother Khairullah. In another incident, body of one Riaz Khan was found in Topi tehsil area.
SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS: Majority of people here in the district plan to buy sacrificial animals three or four days before Eidul Azha due to the increased fodder prices and lack of space for keeping them in their houses.
A visit to the cattle markets and interaction with people showed that most of those visiting the markets were just checking the prices of sacrificial animals.
“The price of straw, grass and other fodder has increased manifold, so our group has decided to buy sacrificing animals just a day before Eid,” said Rohal Amin of Topi city.
Another reason the trade was yet to pick up was that the public sector employees would get the salary of the current month on coming Monday after which they would buy sacrificial animals.
