SAHIWAL: Dera Rahim police arrested a pick-up van driver for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy in village 187/9-L of Chichawatni tehsil onFriday evening.

A family had hired a pick-up van from Mian Channu to attend a relative’s funeral prayers in village 187/9-L of Chichawatni tehsil. After reaching the funeral venue, the family left the minor with the driver and rushed to offer prayers.

On finding the child alone, the driver took him to a nearby maize field where he allegedly sexually assaulted him and left him injured. He managed to flee from the village by telling the passenger family that he had an emergency and was leaving for Faisalabad.

When the family returned they found their injured child in the fields. Dera Rahim police rushed to the spot and after getting the minor’s medical examination conducted, registered a rape case.

District Police Officer Amir Taimoor also took notice of the incident and sent two policemen to trace the suspect who was eventually arrested from Mian Channu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mazhar Gondal told Dawn that the suspect was arrested on Sunday from Jandiya village in Mian Channu tehsil.
