Two police officials martyred in Charsadda attack

CHARSADDA: Two policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were martyred when they came under firing in Tarlandi area here on Wednesday.

Police said ASI Siraj, the in-charge of Tarlandi police station, and constable Ikram had gone to Qila Koroona in Nissatta area to follow on a complaint of a land dispute between close relatives.

As the policemen reached the area, accused Zahirullah and his son, Zarak, opened fire on them, killing them on the spot. Later, the bodies were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for legal formalities.

A police source said one of the accused was arrested in injured condition from Qazi Hospital in Nowshera.

The funeral prayers of the policemen were held at the Charsadda police lines.

Meanwhile, a fire at a shopping plaza on the Nowshera Road reduced electronic items worth millions of rupees to ashes on Wednesday.

TMA fire tenders reached the spot and prevented the fire from spreading to other shops in the plaza.

Meanwhile, Jahangir Adil, a senior artist of Pakistan Television, died in a traffic accident on Wednesday.

He was travelling on a motorbike near Nagman when he was hit by a van. As a result, he suffered serious injuries to his head and died before reaching the hospital.
