OKARA: Many areas on the southern side of the city are flooded with sewage as the drainage system collapsed more than a week back but the municipal corporation (MC) authorities are indifferent to the situation.

The localities, including Sirki Mohallah, Basharat Park, Ahmadabad, Dera Usman, Gulshan Fatima, Glass Factory, Bajwa Colony, Kot Nihal Singh, Peoples Colony and Samadpur, are near the original city founded in middle of the 1920s and an underpass and a railway level crossing connect them with the northern side of the city.

The locals, including Muhammad Farooq, Arif Iqbal, Abdul Sattar Lodhi, Ghaffar Khan, Anees Baloch, Ramzan Jani and Muhammad Yasin, complain that their areas are rather completely neglected by the MC. From their side of the city, they say, thousands of people go to the northern side to visit the shopping areas and public offices while passing through the railway level crossing or the underpass.

They use the Railway Road, Samadpur Road and Sirki Mohallah Road and as sewerage in these areas is choked, the people have to pass through sewage.

About 200,000 people of the areas mentioned above are suffering due to the choked drainage and the situation needs the attention of the MC officials and high-ups.
