SWABI: A man was killed and his brother injured during a jirga called to resolve an issue involving their estranged sister in a village of Razaar tehsil here on Friday.

Police said that sister of Kamran Khan and Niaz Ali of Karnal Sher Khan Kallay had married a few years ago with Imtiaz Khan of the same village. They said that about five months ago the couple clashed over some trivial domestic issue, resulting in the woman’s leaving her husband’s house and reaching her parents home.

They said that Imtiaz’s family made efforts, but failed to persuade his wife to return to their own home. However, members of the two families agreed to hold a jirga on Friday and resolve the issues between the couple.

The jirga members wanted that the woman should return to her husband’s home. Niaz and Kamran on one side and Imtiaz, his brother Nosher Khan and their father Hamid Khan on the other side were attending the jirga, but the heated discussion culminated in opening of firing. Injured Niaz told police that Imtiaz, Nosher and Hamid opened fire on them during the jirga and as result he was injured and his brother Kamran was killed on the spot.

When contacted, Kalu Khan police SHO Munsif Khan said that police arrested the suspects and had recovered the pistols used in the incident. An FIR has been registered in the local police station.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested a proclaimed offender who remained at large for about 35 years, said officials.

Shamusul Arfeen, a resident of Kotha village, had allegedly killed a 12-year-old girl in 1985.

Topi city police SHO Ayub Khan said they got information about presence of the accused in his native town and arrested him. Meanwhile, the police arrested one Anwar Ali of Chota Lahor and allegedly recovered five kilogrammes of charas from his motorcycle.
