GUJRAT: Former additional deputy commissioner revenue (ADCR) Dr Rani Hafsa Kanwal was sent to Gujranwala district jail late on Friday on 14-day judicial remand by a local magistrate.

Dr Kanwal was booked and arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in a case of illegal transfer of 32 kanals of state land worth around Rs500 million to Mubarak Beg and Azhar Iqbal last year.

Earlier, she had spent two nights at the circuit house, which was declared a sub-jail by the magistrate. She was brought here from Lahore after an ACE team arrested her from Chamba House on Tuesday.

The area magistrate had also observed in his earlier order on Wednesday that the case registered against Dr Kanwal was quashable, but this court could not order the discharge of the case and the matter could be referred to any other competent court.

The ACE lawyer also filed an application on Friday that the area magistrate had already disclosed his mind by observing that the case could be discharged, which was why the ACE too wanted the case to be proceeded in any other court.
