KOHAT: The Mohammad Riaz Shaheed and cantonment police officials on Sunday foiled an attempt of smuggling weapons from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to Punjab.

DSP Saddar police Sanobar Shah told a press conference that in separate cases the police recovered five Kalashnikovs, three repeaters, two rifles, 20 pistols and 4,000 cartridges.

Acting on a tip-off, he said the police stopped a car at the Kohat Friendship tunnel checkpost. He said the smugglers had fixed a number plate of a lawyer to trick the personnel. Upon search of its secret cavities, the police recovered an AK-47, a rifle, a repeater, three pistols and 4,000 cartridges. The smugglers named Abdul Yasir and Munir Khan hailing from Bannu admitted to smuggling weapons to Punjab, the DSP said.

Similarly, he added in targeted operations the cantonment and Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police rounded up 60 suspects and seized huge cache of weapons. It included four AK-47, two repeaters, one rifle, and 17 pistols.

Meanwhile, during a crackdown on criminals the police arrested 19 drug peddlers, gamblers, Afghans and facilitators of proclaimed offenders, a statement said.
