KOHAT: A coordinated command post has been established here as part of the security measures for Muharram.
DIG Kohat division Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, commissioner Syed Abdul Jabbar, deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman and district police officer Javed Iqbal visited the post and gave important instructions to the staff about foolproof monitoring.
The command is equipped with dozens of CCTV cameras connected to LCDs.
The officers also paid a visit to all the Imambargahs, checked security arrangements, ordered installation of security gates at the entrances and deployment of extra police. They also visited all the major and small routes of the mourning processions and directed the police and district administration officials to regularly check the drains and cover up dug out places before the start of Muharram.
ROBBER ARRESTED: The cantonment police arrested a robber who deprived people of cash and mobile phones at gunpoint on the Hangu Road on Tuesday.
SHO Qismat Khan said the police had received complaints on Monday night from people walking by the road that a robber was looting people on the highway.
He said a raiding party conducted operations in the area and apprehended the accused, Mohammad Rohail, hiding in a house. The police recovered a Kalashnikov, bullets, Rs40,000, mobile phones and identity cards. He was shifted to the police station.
