HYDERABAD: DRO disposes of appeals

Published September 20, 2005

HYDERABAD, Sept 19: The district returning officer on Monday disposed of nine appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers of candidates for reserved seats and taluka and district nazims of various districts. In all, 11 appeals were filed against candidatures and of them eight were decided while order on two of them has been reserved.

An objection was filed by Hajjan Shah against PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel candidate for Hyderabad (rural) taluka nazim, Khawind Bux Jahejo which was rejected. Ms Noorjehan, a candidate for reserved seat for women in Qasimabad taluka council, had filed appeal against rejection of her nomination form which was rejected by the RO concerned on the ground that she arrived late for scrutiny of her papers.

She requested for restoration of her candidature pleading that no objection had been filed against her nomination form and said that the form had been rejected because she reached the court late.

Her appeal was also allowed by the court. The DRO rejected nomination form of Ramzan Rajput, a candidate for one of the three reserved labour seats in the district council. His form was rejected by the RO.

Again an objection was filed by one Abdul Rehman before the DRO after Rajput’s form was not accepted by the RO on the similar ground.

The DRO upheld the order of the RO concerned.

It was argued before the DRO that the candidate was not entitled to contest on labour seat because he was a landlord and a wealthy person.

The objection of one Ali Nawaz Shah against PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel candidate, Sattar Bachani, was also rejected by the DRO and the form of Bachani stood restored for the seat of district nazim Tando Allahyar district.

The DRO reserved order on the appeal of Abdul Razaque, a candidate for the taluka nazim for Matiari taluka.

An objection was filed against him by the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).

Likewise, the order on the appeal of one Shafi, a candidate for labour seat in the district council of Tando Mohammad was also reserved by the DRO.
