KOHAT: A tandoor owner has become a messiah for the daily wagers and other destitute people as they get free bread (roti) from his oven three times a day.

Banaras disclosed to Dawn that he was feeding 70 to 80 labourers and poor women who took at least 500 breads from his oven three times daily. He said that the widows sent their children for bringing the bread.

He said he got the noble idea of providing free bread to the poor when destitute people came to his oven in numbers seeking free roti.

Banaras said he had placed a box at his shop if anybody wanted to give donations. ‘’I have also displayed a signboard at my shop, mentioning that no money will be charged from people who cannot afford to buy bread,’’ he added.

He said his tandoor had always been a bustling place. ‘’I serve professional beggars, destitute women, and everyone who cannot buy bread.’’

He said anybody with a generous heart could become a philanthropist, no matter what class he belonged to, and provide free food keeping in view the increasingly hungry mouths.

The Banaras roti has also become a brand name among families as he uses pure flour and maintains government rate and weight, which has made him popular for years.
