KOHAT: A woman was allegedly strangulated by her husband with the help of his brother and father in Ghurzadi area of Lachi tehsil here on Tuesday.

The accused, who were later arrested by the police, admitted to planning and carrying out the murder following daily scuffles in the house. The police registered a murder case against them.

SHO Lachi police Hamayun Khan told reporters that they received a report that a woman had committed suicide by hanging herself. However, police investigated the incident, and found that she had not hanged herself but had been strangulated which was evident from signs of force on her neck when she struggled for life.

The police officer said the accused would be produced before the court on Wednesday (today) for obtaining their physical remand for further investigation.

DRUGGISTS ASKED TO GET REGISTERED: After merger with Kohat all the owners of drug stores in the Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision have been asked to register with the Drug Regulatory Authority, and stop selling Indian medicines.

The directives were issued by drug inspector Mohammad Irfan Wazir during a visit to Darra on Tuesday, where he met with drug stores owners.

He asked them to remove all unregistered medicines from their shops. He stressed that they should apply for licenses for selling drugs legally. He also asked them to help in controlling sale of narco-drugs which were harmful to human health.

ARRESTS: The police arrested 50 suspected persons and recovered weapons during the strike and strategic operations to ensure peace during Muharram.

A statement issued on Tuesday said district police officer Javed Iqbal had asked the officials to intensify operations ahead of and during Muharram. He said no compromise should be made on security because Kohat had been declared the most sensitive district in Muharram.

ASP headquarters Danial Ahmed and SHO Ustarzai accompanied by the lady police and elite force personnel conducted raids at targeted places on the basis of intelligence reports in Khadizai, Marai Bala, Marai Payan, Mitha Khan and Alizai. The seizure included five pistols, a rifle and four chargers.
