KARACHI: It appears as if the clouds of uncertainty that have been looming over Misbah ul Haq’s future as chief selector for the past few days are finally fading away. Misbah will stay as chief selector of Pakistan men’s national team, Dawn has learnt.

According to a reliable source in the PCB, the reports of replacing Misbah as chief selector are absolutely ‘baseless’.

“We have neither discussed it, nor it is in our plans. It’s a completely baseless story,” a well informed source told Dawn.

It was first reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Aug 22 that Misbah might be asked to step down as chief selector in order to focus on his job as head coach. After which, the story was picked up by the local and international media. Social media and local media have been abuzz with rumours that a former “fiery, outspoken fast bowler” might replace Misbah as the chief selector.

This latest development, however, has put all such rumours to rest.
