KARACHI: Dr Sohail Rajput, a grade-21 officer, was on Tuesday appointed commissioner of Karachi, replacing Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, now posted as local government secretary.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved the appointment of Mr Rajput, who had joined civil service in 1991, as the new commissioner of the port city.

He was serving as additional secretary at the federal ministry of finance before his appointment as commissioner of Karachi division.

Previously, he was appointed to the posts of local government secretary, finance secretary, commissioner of Hyderabad division and principal secretary to the chief minister in the province.

He was transferred to the federal government, where he was posted additional secretary in the finance ministry in 2018.

His services were transferred to the Sindh government on Aug 18.
