Official sees early completion of Kachhi canal work

QUETTA: Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) retired Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain has said that the first phase of Kachhi Canal and its extension would be completed soon.

During a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan here on Monday, he said the tender of Nolang Dam would be issued soon as its documents had been completed.

While speaking during the meeting, the chief minister said completion of the Kachhi Canal project would boost economy of the province and create ample of employment opportunities.

He said that millions of acres of land could be cultivated with the construction and development of water reservoirs. “Balochi­stan could meet food requirement of the entire country,” he said.

The Wapda chairman said that after the construction of Nolang Dam millions of acres feet of rain and flood water could be stored, which would not only help in promoting agriculture in the province but also generate electricity.

Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mir Tariq Magsi and Minister for Revenue Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa also attended the meeting.
