KARACHI: All basketball activities in the city will resume from Sept 6 while a Defence Day basketball tournament will also be launched on the same day, Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) president Ghulam Mohammad announced in a key meeting on Friday.
The meeting was headed by Chairman KBBA Amjad Ali Khan while secretary Tariq Hussain, international player Abdul Nasir, Zaeema Khatoon and others were also present.
It was decided that the Defence Day Basketball event will open with a girls basketball exhibition match between Abida Toosi Shaheed XI and Pilot Maryam Mukhtar Shaheed XI at 4:00pm at the Arambagh Abdul Basir courts.
Later the tournament will formally begin with a graceful ceremony after which the basketball teams named after the heroes of 1965 war will line up to start competitions from 8:00pm onwards. The final of the weeklong tournament will be played on Sept 13.
Earlier on Sept 6 all the basketball players and officials will pay homage to Rashid Minhas Shaheed at his grave at 11:00am.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals and final of Late Dr Mohammad Ali Shah Basketball Tournament which could not be held in April due to Covid-19 pandemic will now be played on Sept 3 and 5 respectively according to KBBA.
