LAHORE: Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) on Monday approved the merger of a sub-campus of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in Jhang asa constituent college of the University of Jhang (UoJ).

Earlier, the Punjab government had constituted a special committee of the provincial cabinet on higher education under the chairmanship of Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun for the purpose.

The committee has recommended that the Jhang sub-campus of LCWU be transferred in favour of the UoJ as a constituent college named as College of Arts and Sciences.

The committee also directed that the existing students at LCWU Jhang campus be awarded a degree of the LCWU.

The LCWU syndicate discussed the matter in its 72nd meeting and suggested that the sub-campus be merged into the UoJ. It also requested that the services of the existing staff and faculty should be protected at the sub-campus.

According to a notification of the HED issued on Aug 31 available with Dawn, “The cabinet has approved merger of sub-campus of Lahore College for Women University at Jhang with University of Jhang as “College of Arts and Sciences” with all assets and liabilities.”

The land of the sub-campus measuring 200 kanals has been transferred to the University of Jhang while the existing enrolled students at sub-campus will be awarded a degree of the LCWU.

It further states that all employees (regular or on contract basis) serving at the LCWU sub-campus shall be treated on deputation with UoJ, but they shall not be entitled to any deputation allowance and shall be liable to transfer to their parent university.

An employee of the LCWU sub-campus may, within a year from the date of notification, opt for absorption in the services of the UoJ, on terms and conditions not less favourable than those admissible to an employee of the LCWU Jhang sub-campus.
