QUETTA: Four people were injured in a bomb blast outside a mosque in the Sariab Road area here on Friday.

According to police, unknown attackers planted the bomb in a motorcycle and parked it in front of the mosque. It was detonated by remote control.

The blast occured at around 1pm when people gathered at the masque for Friday prayers.

“The motorcycle was blown up when the prayer leader was delivering the Juma sermon,” senior police officer Qasim Sumalani said, adding that the people present in the mosque remained unhurt in the blast. However, four people passing through the area received injuries.

Soon after the blast, police and FC personnel rushed to the blast site and cordoned off the entire area. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital.

“We have received four injured persons,” Dr Wasim Baig, a spokesman for Civil Hospital, said, adding that the condition of all the four injured was stable.

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) personnel rushed to the site and collected evidence.

“The explosive device weighing around 2.5kg was planted in the motorcycle,” a senior BDS official said, adding that the bomb was detonated by remote control.

Police said it appeared that the terrorists wanted to target the security personnel patrolling the area. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
