SWABI: A transgender person was gunned down by his younger brother here on Friday.

Saad Khan, who belonged to Swabi city, had gone to Rawalpindi and Islamabad where he participated in several dance parties.

His family was opposed to his dance performance and his brother had warned him of dire consequences.

Mohammad Hamad, a 13-year-old brother of the transgender person, scuffled with Saad when he returned home. He took a weapon and shot Saad dead.

Mir Sultan, another brother of the deceased transgender person, lodged an FIR against Hamad, SHO Farooq Khan said.

According to police, the inspector general of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police took notice of the incident and directed the district police to arrest the killer and provide adequate security to other transgender persons in Swabi.

District Police Officer Imran Shahid said a special team led by SP investigation Banaras Khan had been constituted and he would personally supervise the investigation.

The body of the deceased was shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor, for autopsy.

SP Banaras Khan later said at a press conference that police had arrested Hamad and seized the pistol he had used to kill his brother. “The incident was not that of a targeted killing,” he added.
