SWABI: A rainwater swamp in the streets near Jamia Ashab-i-Suffa in Tordher here has been posing threat to the buildings and health of local people.

Weakened by the water, the boundary wall of a private high school in the area collapsed two days ago.

Talking to this correspondent, the residents said on Thursday that they had been facing problems because of the stagnant water in front of their houses. The area is one of the low-lying parts of Chota Lahor tehsil and its drainage system is chocked.

The people said that the stinking water had become a breeding ground for mosquitos that could cause diseases. They said that because of flooded streets they had been facing difficulties passing through them and bringing essential commodities to their homes.

They said that if the tehsil municipal administration failed to come forward they might suffer from the increased incidence of eye infection, cholera, dysentery, skin diseases, diarrhea, etc.

The people said they had appealed to local politicians and elected representatives, but none of them visited the area to resolve their issues.

They said that without adequate support of the TMA it was not possible for them to remove the standing water.

“We are in a difficult situation because we can neither remove the water nor can shift to another area,” said a resident Iqbal Ahmad.
