Karachi Club South win Defence Day Basketball title

KARACHI: Karachi Basketball Club South outplayed Nishter Club 57-42 in the Defence Day basketball final in front of a packed crowd here at the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir court on Sunday to lift the trophy in style.

Raj Kumar (21 points) was brilliant on the court and led the onslaught for the winners. He was well assisted by Mohammad Daniyal (14 pts) and mohammad Riaz (12 pts).

For the losing side, the main scorers were Mohammad Abbas (11 pts), Asad Ali and Mohammad Shabbir (10pts each).

Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Sindh Riaz Ali Abbasi was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizes in a cerermony which was presided over by Asghar Azeem, Secretary Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS).

Riaz presented the Major Akram Shaheed award to Man of the Day Raj Kumar while Daniyal was declared Man of the Tournament.

Later, in his speech, Riaz Abbasi assured the organisers and fans that the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir court will be fully renovated into a high level court and added that CM Murad Ali is very keen to make every possible effort to promote sports in the province.

SJAS head Asghar Azeem also lauded KBBA’s Ghulam Mohammad for his consistent efforts to promote sports.

Also present on the occasion were Khalid Shamsi of PTF, international wrestler Shr Khan, Shahid Parveen of PSWA, SOA’s Asif Azeem, Sindh Boxing’s Asghar Baloch.

Yoga Fedration’s Mohammad Arshad was awarded Benazir Bhutto award for his services to sports.
