ISLAMABAD: The Planning and Development Department on Monday notified the constitution of Balochistan Regulatory Reform Committee (BRRC) with the support and technical assistance of the International Trade Centre, under the European Union-funded ‘Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress’ (Grasp) project, which is now underway.

The provincial government institutionalised this public-private dialogue mechanism to serve as a platform for inter-departmental coordination and policy dialogue for coherent, inclusive, and research-based development, as well as implementation of laws, regulations, and policies.

Grasp Project Coordinator Azher Ali Chaudhry termed the formation of BRRC as a significant step for policy coherence. Speaking at the occasion, he said that concerted efforts are required to address common challenges in the area of policy design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

However, in most of the developing countries, policy coherence lacks where different government institutions work in silos to develop and implement policies and regulatory regime; Pakistan being no exception. Conducive regulatory regime and effective implementation of policies are imperative for the growth and sustainability of small and medium enterprises which Grasp seeks to achieve through reforming business environment, he added.
