HARIPUR: Another victim of the PTI leader Malik Tahir Iqbal firing incident succumbed to injuries at Tarbela Military Hospital late on Sunday.

PTI divisional general secretary Malik Tahir Iqbal, his friend and former village councillor Sardar Gul Nawaz and Iqbal’s driver-cum-gunman Mohammad Anwar were ambushed by gunmen near Kotehra village on Sunday night.

The PTI’s leader was returning to home in Ghazi area after offering Fateha for one of his acquaintances.

The injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Ghazi.

Tahir Iqbal was pronounced dead, while Gul Nawaz was taken to the Military Hospital, Tarbela, due to critical injuries but he succumbed to injuries.

Tahir Iqbal’s driver, Anwar, remained unhurt in the firing incident, the police said.

Meanwhile, the police registered a murder case against unidentified gunmen and began investigation.

Regional police officer Qazi Jameelur Rehman, DPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar and SP (investigation) Syed Inyat Ali Shah visited the crime scene and directed the investigators to ensure the early arrest of gunmen.

The PTI leader was buried in his ancestral graveyard in Sector No 1, Khalabat Township, on Monday evening.

A large number of party workers, lawyers, former councillors and nazims, federal ministers Umar Ayub Khan and Azam Khan Swati, PTI divisional president Ali Asghar Khan, former chief minister and Senator Pir Sabir Shah, provincial minister Akbar Ayub, MPA Arshad Ayub also attended the funeral prayer of Tahir Iqbal.
