HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Hyderabad, on Saturday announced the results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) 2020, science and general groups, in line with the promotion policy introduced by the Sindh government amid Covid-19 outbreak.

No candidate is marked as failure in the results. The results of 121 candidates were withheld.

In science group, Haris, son of Abdul Razzaq Umrani, of Cadet College Petaro secured first position with 759 marks (89.29pc) and Isra, daughter of Abbas Ali, from Bakhtawar Cadet College for Girls, Shaheed Benazirabad stood second with 753 marks (88.59pc).

Warisha Khokhar, daughter of Mohammad Fahim Khan of Latif Niazi Memorial Higher Secondary School, Latifabad, and Faeza Junejo, daughter of Mohammad Mubarak, of the Hayat Girls Higher Secondary School, Saddar, Hyderabad, shared the third position with 751 marks (88.35pc).

A total of 70,074 candidates were declared successful, according to BISE chairman Dr Mohammad Memon.

He stated that the results of six students were cancelled.

The overall percentage of successful students was calculated at 99.82pc.

In the general group, 2,116 candidates were declared successful out of 2,178 candidates. The results of four candidates were cancelled and 58 were withheld. The overall percentage of successful candidates stood at 97.15pc.

BISE chairman congratulated the successful candidates and said that preparing result was a difficult task in view of the newly-introduced promotion policy. He said that the results were prepared without using any new software. He said that Covid-19 had affected children’s studies and in order to save their future, student-friendly results were prepared. He feared that it would lead to negative implications in future because examinations were the real determinant for students’ performance. He said that students would have to compete in future.

BISE controller of examination, Masroor Ahmed Zai said that results were prepared strictly on a merit basis in the light of the promotion policy. He said that those who had reached class IX would become successful on the basis of their efforts next year. He said that those who had obtained 60pc marks in class-IX were declared successful in class-X and those who had failed in two papers were promoted. He further said that the results of only those candidates were withheld who did not appear in class-IX or they were caught copying.
