BAJAUR: Unidentified assailants on Thursday shot dead a known businessman Haji Mohammad Shuaib in Khar tehsil of Bajaur tribal district.

Officials and residents said the incident occurred in Salafiano Colony, some three kilometres from Khar, at about 3pm.

They said that the 49-year old businessman, who was also former general secretary of Inayat Kallay Traders Association, was present in the locality when unidentified assailants started indiscriminate firing on him with automatic rifles.

They said that Mr Shuaib, who belonged to Damadola area of Mamond tehsil, was critically wounded in the attack and taken to the district headquarters hospital, Khar. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Doctors at the hospital said that Mr Shuaib had received multiple bullets in head and other parts of the body. Some residents of the nearby locality rushed to the spot after hearing sound of the firing, but the assailants managed to flee.

Though the motive behind the attack could not be known immediately, the residents said the trader had no personal enmity with anyone.

A senior police official, who along with a team of police personnel visited the site of incident, told mediapersons that they had started investigations to trace the killers.
