LOWER DIR: Unknown assailants shot dead a government schoolteacher when they opened fire on a car in Maidan area of Lower Dir on Thursday night.

The Lal Qila police officials said the deceased, Saeedullah, 30, a resident of Daboono village of Maidan, was an IT teacher at government high school, Mian Banda Timergara. He was on his way home when the car he was driving was ambushed at Galgot area. He was seriously injured and taken to the district headquarters hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

The local residents said the deceased was driving the car of one Attaullah Advocate, a local PPP leader, who was not present in the car at time of the attack. They said apparently Attaullah was the target.

The deceased left behind a widow and a minor baby. Moving scenes were witnessed during his funeral prayers.

The deceased’s father, Bakht Zaman, told reporters that he was proud of being the father of a martyr. He said the family had no enmity with anyone.
