KARACHI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa inaugurated state-of-the-art Software Technology Park, an initiative of the Special Communication Organisation (SCO), in Gilgit on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the facility will help create environment for research and innovation in the fields of IT and defence communication by honing and harnessing skills of brilliant youth of the country. It will also serve as a trigger for development of cyber industry in the area.

Acknowledging efforts of the SCO, Gen Bajwa said that establishment of IT clusters in remote areas would have a great effect by encouraging innovation and digitisation.

The army chief also visited Skardu where he was briefed on the latest situation along the Line of Control and operational preparedness of the Frontier Corps Northern Areas and Army troops deployed there.

Interacting with officers and men, the COAS appreciated their high morale and operational readiness under challenging environment and harsh weather conditions. He urged them to ensure highest levels of readiness for effectively responding to emerging threats.
