GUJRANWALA: The Saddar police on Tuesday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after registration of a case against him on the allegation of slapping a ‘runaway’ girl at G. Magnolia Park near GT Road.

The ASI was released on bail after a few hours of the incident which went viral on social media.

The case was registered on the complaint of SHO Faisal Moeen who said that he, along with other police employees, was present near Chan Da Qila Bypass when he got information that a number of people were gathering at G. Magnolia Park.

He said he learnt that ASI Ali Akbar slapped a girl, Tanzeela Bibi, when she refused her sister Moeen Bibi to return home.

The ASI reacted while abusing his powers, he said, adding he had a case registered against him and detained him in the Saddar police lockup.

Police presented him in court which released him on bail.

Reports said Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the regional police officer.
