KASUR: A complainant in a minor’s rape case gunned down the suspect on Wednesday inside the private chamber of the defence counsel on district courts premises.

According to police, Muhammad Saleem alias Malangi had allegedly raped a minor girl in the Veeram village on Sept 23 and escaped. Police had lodged a case against Saleem under sections 376 (sexual assault) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offenses with punishment for imprisonment for life) of the PPC.

A few days back, Saleem had applied for pre-arrest bail through his counsel. On Wednesday, he appeared before the area magistrate to get the bail and later, went to the chamber of his lawyer Muhammad Shafiq, which was close to gate no 2 of the district courts.

The complainant in the case, who was also from the same village, stormed into the chamber of Shafiq and shot at Saleem, killing him on the spot.

Authorities reached the spot and started collecting evidence. A heavy police contingent also reached the spot. The crime scene is close to the district police chief’s office.

Police officials deputed at gate no 2 of the district courts nabbed the alleged killer and handed him over to B Division police.

Later, lawyers of the district bar association went on a strike against lawlessness and insecurity.

Deputy Commissioner Manzar Javaid Ali also visited the district courts to review the security arrangements that were beefed up after the incident.
