ISLAMABAD: The office of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has decided to conduct a special audit of provident funds maintained by nine entities of the federal government.

The special audit has been ordered on the request of the Ministry of Finance to ascertain if the provident fund’s contributions of the employees of these entities or those deputed there were maintained or invested prudently.

In an order issued by the AGP, the field formations have been directed to complete the special audit within a month and submit it to the head office.

Instructions have also been issued to authorities concerned to depute audit teams to conduct the special audit of provident funds of the government offices.

The offices selected for the special audit include Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR), Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), Pakistan Post Office Department, Mili­tary Accountant General (MAG), Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP), Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS), Pakistan Mint and Pakistan Railways.

According to terms of reference set by the finance ministry, the audit will examine management and record keeping including use of enterprise resource planning and calculation and disbursement of provident fund payment under regulations, rules and procedures.
