SWABI: President of jewellers association, Jalsai, Haji Ahmad Ali, was deprived of gold worth Rs1.9 million, Rs400,000 cash and other valuables in daylight in Chota Lahor tehsil here on Sunday, said police.

Mr Ali, who is the president of Anjuman-i-Zargaran, Jalsai, said he was busy working in his shop when two masked men armed with pistols reached on a motorcycle and forced their way into his shop.

“They threatened to kill me, ordered me to face the wall and started collecting gold and cash,” he said.

The jeweller said that the robbers collected Rs1.9 million worth of gold, silver worth Rs25,000, Rs400,000 cash and his pistol and mobile and fled on their motorcycle. He has registered an FIR against unidentified robbers in Chota Lahor police station.

District Sarafa Association members held an emergency meeting in Jalsai and demanded arrest of the two robbers and recovery of the looted items.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist, identified as Asif Zia, 22, died when his bike collided with an auto-rickshaw on Swabi-Mardan road on Sunday. An FIR has been registered against the driver in Kalu Khan police station.

BODY RECOVERED: Chota Lahor police have recovered body of an unidentified young girl after local farmers informed them that a body was lying near motorway in Jalsai region.

“The girl was killed with a dagger and there were signs on her body showing she was attacked several times and then her body brought to a deserted area of Jalsai village,” said a policeman.

The body was taken to Chota Lahor THQ hospital for autopsy. The police registered an FIR and have started investigations.

COLLEGE BUILDING: Prof Dr Fassehuz Zaman, principal of Gajju Khan Medical College, Swabi, has said that construction of the college building costing around Rs1.8 billion will be started soon.

Briefing mediapersons on Sunday at his office, he said funds for the project would be released in instalments.

He said they had acquired 134 kanals for the college building adjacent to the Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor.

At present, 230 MBBS students are enrolled in the college.
