TANDO JAM: Hyderabad Division edged past Mirpurkhas Division in a pulsating final by 43-41 to clinch the title of the Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan SSB Cup basketball tournament here on Monday.

Playing in front of a handsome crowd, Hyderabad basketball players displayed high level of dribbling and passing to keep Mirpurkhas team on its toes and to eventually win the title.

For the winners, Abdul Rafay (18 points), Habib Khan (14 points) and Syed Saad (10 points) were the leading scorers while for the losing team, the main scorers were Raheel Khan (12 points), Kashan Khan and Mohammad Aslam with 10 points each.

As many as 16 teams participated in the tournament staged here at the Sindh Agriculture University courts.

Secretary Sports Imtiaz Ali Shah lauds well organised event

Secretary Sindh Deptt of Sports and Youth Affairs Imtiaz Ali Shah was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizs among the winners and runner-up teams.

In his address later, he said on the instructions of CM Murad Ali Shah, sports advisor Bangal Khan Mahar and he himself are working day and night to uplift the infrastructure at sports grounds and other such facilities in the province.

“Plans are afoot to engage persons with physical disability and even prisoners in jail in healthy activities and to create a competitive and good environment for the youth in the province.

Imtiaz added that Sindh Deptt is making efforts to hold Sindh Games either in December this year or January 2021. The inaugural ceremony of the Games will be held in Larkana while the closing ceremony will be held in Karachi,” he assured.

He lauded PSWA and Sindh Agriculture University for staging the wonderful SSB Cup in the name of great leader Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan.
