SUKKUR: The Sindh High Court (SHC) Sukkur bench on Wednesday ordered that if someone was bitten by a stray dog, a case should be registered against the municipal officer of that area.

The divisional bench, comprising Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar and Justice Mehmood A. Khan, passed the order in a petition filed by a citizen, Faheem Ahmed, against increase of menace of stray and mad dogs.

The hearing was attended by municipal officers from different districts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Larkana and Ghotki. They told the court that they had taken action against the stray dogs in their respective areas, adding that recently no incident of dog bite took place in their localities.

Expressing its anger, the court said the incidents of dog bite were taking place every day; therefore action be continued against the animal.

The court also mentioned in its orders that the deputy commissioners should themselves monitor the matter and should inform the court against the negligent municipal officials.

It also gave orders to chief municipal officers and municipal officers to submit report in the court every week about their campaign against stray dogs.
