Table Tennis: Double success for Pindi

ISLAMABAD, Sept 27: Rawalpindi District clinched men’s singles and ladies team titles in the Punjab Inter-district table tennis championship. Muhammad Farooq of Rawalpindi defeated his namesake from Toba Tek Singh 11-8, 11-5, 14-12 in the final of men’s singles while in the ladies team final, Rawalpindi disposed of Sahiwal 3-1.

Selected district teams from around the province participated in the championship held at Iqbal Park Sports Complex in Lahore.

In the final of ladies team event, the opening singles were won by Kanwal Iqbal of Rawalpindi who beat Mobeen of Sahiwal while Mubasharra brought Sahiwal on an even keel with victory over Tamseela of Rawalpindi.

Kanwal Iqbal and Tamseela beat Mubasharra and Tamseela of Sahiwal 3-1 in the doubles. In the reverse singles, Kanwal of Rawalpindi downed Mubasharra of Sahiwal to win the final.

Rabia of Jhelum won the ladies singles final with victory over Kanwal. However, in the ladies doubles, Kanwal and Tamseela triumphed over Mubeen and Mubasharra.

Farooq and Rahim of Toba Tek Singh prevailed over Muhammad Farooq and Fakhar of Rawalpindi 11-8 and 11-7 in the doubles final.

In the men’s team event final, Toba Tek Singh beat Lahore 3-0. Thus honours in the championship went to Rawalpindi and Toba Tek Singh.—APP
