SAHIWAL: The postal department will provide legal, administrative and moral support to its competent officer who was slapped by a political activist at the General Post Office here four weeks ago.

“This is unfortunate and intolerable,” Post Master General (Punjab) Khalid Awais Ranjha told the media here on Monday.

“I have assured senior post master Sofia Qasim that she is not alone in her battle for justice.”

Ranjha said he was here to show solidarity with Qasim and the entire staff.

He said a criminal case against accused Naveed Aslem, district information secretary of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, was already under process with the city police.

Answering a question, he said the department was watching the legal processes because it was a matter of female staff prestige in Punjab.

He said the department was working on a proposal to make the environment for its 1,000 female staff members secure.

Mr Muddasar Ghaffar, City Police SHO, told Dawn pre-arrest bail of the accused would end on Nov 29 and police would make sure the bail was not extended further.

Education minister Murad Rass visited Sahiwal and chaired a meeting of local education officials at the DC Office.

Naveed Aslam was present in the meeting as one of the invitees.
