KOHAT: A joint security strategy has been finalised at a meeting chaired by district police officer Javed Iqbal for the protection of seminaries through mutual understanding of the police officials and ulema and caretakers to avoid Peshawar-like incident.

DSPs of city, Lachi and headquarters and SHOs attended the meeting held here on Thursday.

The DPO said that the mechanism was being devised under the changed scenario of law and order.

The officials held meetings with the caretakers and ulema of main Tableeghi Markaz and other seminaries and issued them guidelines to restrict their movement, ask the students not to allow stay of irrelevant people or pick any suspicious bag or item. They were told to report to police in case of presence of any suspicious person.

ARRESTED: The city police on Thursday arrested two tribesmen at Shahpur checkpost who were smuggling hashish from Orakzai district to Kohat on a motorcycle.

They were identified as Ulfat Ali and Shahan Ali of Orakzai and five kilogrammes hashish was recovered from them. They were booked under the drugs act and sent to the lock-up.

Meanwhile, Gumbat police in an intelligence-based action in Parshai area on Thursday arrested a man and his son wanted for 20 years in a murder case.

Munawar Din and his son Jehanzeb were declared as proclaimed offenders by a court 20 years ago. They were nominated in the FIR.
