LAHORE: Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Founder-President, APWA, on Wednesday [Oct 28] underlined the need for political education of women in the wider interest of the nation and the country.

Introducing a pamphlet “Your right to vote” being issued by APWA for distribution to various women’s organisations with a view to emphasising upon them the importance of their vote, she said for the first time in its history Pakistan was having elections on the basis of adult franchise, covering the whole country.

The view had been held by a ... section, she said, that women should not take part in politics but when the role of women in the Pakistan Movement itself was considered this point of view had to be strongly rejected. Islam, she said, had assigned to woman a very important role in the creation of a healthy society and to create an honest and just society, the women could not remain aloof from the country’s politics. Women must participate fully, and exercise their political rights and duties.

She said it was fortunate that both Quaid-i-Azam and Quaid-i Millat had ... supported the movement for equal political rights for Pakistani women, and a struggle had not to be carried on to get the right to vote... . — Agency
