Govt taking tangible steps to enhance literacy rate: CM

MOHMAND: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that promotion of education is the top priority of the government and tangible steps are being taken under a well-devised strategy to enhance literacy rate and strengthen education system in the province

He was speaking at a ceremony during his daylong visit to Mohmand tribal district on Monday. The chief minister inaugurated the newly established Cadet College Mamad Gat.

Inspector General Frontier Corps North Maj Gen Rahat Naseem, Lt Gen Rafiqur Rehman, MNA Sajid Mohmand, former governor Engineer Shaukatullah and civil and military officials were present on the occasion.

The chief minister was briefed by the high ups of Frontier Corps about the college and was told that classes for 8th graders would commence from Tuesday (today) whereas higher secondary classes would be launched in March next year.

The cadet college has been established at a total cost of Rs984 million. Besides quality education, accommodation facilities for teaching staff and students and other allied facilities are available in the college.

Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said that huge resources were being utilised to enhance literacy rate and strengthen education system in the province. He said that as a result of the reforms initiatives of the government, substantial improvement was brought in education sector.

He said that the cadet college would play a vital role in imparting quality education to local youth at their doorsteps. He said that it would prove a milestone in bringing about a revolution in education sector in the tribal districts.

Felicitating the students selected for admission, the chief minister advised them to make hard work their habit to come up to the expectations of their parents as well as the entire nation.

He said that government was spending a huge amount on upgradation and provision of missing facilities to educational institutions. He added that new educational institutions were also been established on need basis.

Mr Khan said that thousands of qualified youth were recruited through a transparent process to ensure availability of teachers in all public sector schools.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the commandant of the college, Brig Zafar Iqbal said that establishment of the college was possible because of the personal interest of the chief minister. Besides cadets and their parents, the ceremony was also attended by tribal elders in a large number.

The chief minister also visited training centre at Bhai Dag to witness the training being imparted to police of tribal districts by FC officials.

He also inaugurated the newly constructed building of government primary school in Marez Khan. The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs22 million.
