KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead while another arrested after an ‘encounter’ in Surjani Town on Thursday morning, according to police.

They added that four suspects were looting people at the Kaneez Fatima Society roundabout when a police party reached there. The suspects opened fire on the police. When the police retaliated, one suspect identified as Mohammed was killed while his accomplice Rashid arrested in injured condition. Their two accomplices fled.

The dead and injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols and one motorbike from their possession.

Cleric’s killing case

Presided over by acting Karachi police chief Additional IGP Arif Hanif, a meeting reviewed the investigation into assassination of prominent religious scholar Dr Maulana Adil Khan who was killed along with his driver in Shah Faisal Colony last month.

The slain cleric’s son Mufti Anas and Jamia Binoria Al-Almia head Mufti Noman Naeem, along with other scholars, attended the meeting, said a police spokesperson.

Counter Terrorism Department DIG Omar Shahid Hamid briefed the participants on the progress made in the case.
