PESHAWAR: The 11th Annual Vintage and Classic Cars Rally 2020 started off from the Khyber Rifles Mess in the Khyber tribal district on Saturday with 40 people, including foreigners, participating.
The event has been jointly organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KP-CTA) and the Classic Land Rover.
According to the KP-CTA, the ancient and unique cars from 1930 to 1970 models, including Mercedes, Ford, Chevrolet, Mustang, MG, VW, Mini and others are taking part in the rally.
Later in the day, the participants reached the provincial capital where a colourful show of the vintage and classic cars would be arranged at the Peshawar Services Club on Sunday (today). Families will also participate in the show, also featuring a musical show.
The organisers said car racers from different cities, including Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore, would arrive in Multan for the second leg of their journey.
The racers would then leave for the final destination of the rally, the Khanpur tourist resort.
The organisers said the car rally was aimed at highlighting the importance of scenic places and tourism in the merged districts to lure more tourists to the serene sites.
They added that the cars show was meant to provide an opportunity of enjoyment to the entertainment-starved people of Peshawar and elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is also aimed at presenting soft image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and highlighting its tourism potential.
In the past, the annual car rally would start from Karachi and conclude in Peshawar. However, the rally started for the second time from the Khyber district to highlight the significance of the merged areas and their scenic sites.
