SWABI: People from various walks of life here on Thursday held a protest demonstration against skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, urging the government to take steps for resolution of their problems.

The protest call was given by a newly-established rights body, Swabi Awami Tehreek. The protesters marched on various roads and reached Karnal Sher Khan Chowk where they set up a protest camp.

The protesters said they wanted to get rid of those who had raised the empty slogan of ‘Naya Pakistan’. They said that despite completion of more than half of its constitutional term the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had failed to take steps for welfare of the people.

Addressing the protesters, Wahid Shah, former Swabi tehsil nazim, said that the prime minister’s claim of reducing the prices had proved hollow.

Yousuf Ali, former PTI district general secretary, said: “I stand by the protesting people because their demands are genuine.”

Abdul Muneem, former nazim of Swabi union council, said the day was not far when the entire nation would come out on streets to protest because there was no one to resolve their issues.

MAN KILLS BROTHER: A man killed his brother over ownership and driving of an autorickshaw here in Maneri Payyan’s Lakhtay Banda area in the limits of Swabi city police station.

Giving details, SHO Farooq Khan said that each of the two brothers wanted to drive their rickshaw for earning livelihood.

He said arguments between them inside their house over who would drive the three-wheeler led to a clash during which Salman Wali allegedly opened fire on his brother Hamad Wali. As a result, Hamad was killed on the spot.

Taj Wali registered an FIR against his son Salman and has demanded his arrest.
