ISLAMABAD: Four armed men raided the house of former president Farooq Leghari in G-6/4 and injured the servants.

The former president’s son Awais Leghari, who is the PML-N Punjab secretary general, is living in the house along with his mother. However, they were not present when the incident occurred.

A senior police officer told Dawn on condition of anonymity that the incident took place early on Friday. The armed men entered the house by jumping the wall and overpowered the servants and beat them up.

But as the servants shouted for help, the culprits escaped, he added. When Awais Leghari was informed about the incident, he returned to the house and informed the police.

Another senior officer said it seems to be a house robbery attempt. But the robbers escaped after the servants put up resistance and shouted for help. He said the police will investigate the incident from all angles.

One of the house servants told Dawn that the armed men entered the house at around 1am. At that time, Mr Leghari and his mother had gone to inquire after the health of a relative in Islamabad, he added.

In another incident, two robbers snatched Rs1.8 million from a man on I-10 Service Road, police said.

Ejaz Shah was intercepted by two persons on a motorcycle when he was returning from a private bank after withdrawing the amount.

Moreover, burglars broke into a house at Pakistan Town and made off with cash, ornaments and other valuables worth Rs700,000, said the police.

Thieves stole ornaments worth Rs100,000 from a house in G-7/1. Similarly, cash and articles worth Rs150,000 were stolen from a filling station in the limits of Shams Colony police. Some motorcycle riders also snatched cash and a mobile phone from a man at G-7 Markaz.
