MUZAFFARGARH: Police arrested four men who organised a village council (jirga) and ordered the killing of a woman of their tribe under karo kari for marrying a man of her own free will around a year ago.

According to the Chowk Karam Dad Qureshi police, District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hassan Iqbal took stern action against a family of Suleman Pathan tribe who held a jirga against a woman of their tribe.

The jirga had been held at Chowk Karam Dad Qureshi headed by Nazar Hussain, Kalay Khan, Rozi Khan and Adam Khan.

They decided that the woman, who now had a child also, should be handed over to the jirga and killed over ‘honour’ and the child could be handed over to her husband’s family. Her husband had already been killed a few months ago.

When the police received information, the DPO ordered the Karam Dad Qureshi station house officer to arrest the men who held the jirga. A case was registered against them under sections 310A, 506B, 148 and 149 of the PPC.
