LAHORE; Top seed Aqeel Khan and other ranked players forged ahead as the heavy schedule of the matches was completed on the first day of the 4th Sheheryar Malik Memorial National Grass Court Tennis Championship at the Bagh-i-Jinnah courts here on Tuesday.

Aqeel did not face much resistance from Faizan Khurram as he sailed to win his opening match with the score being 6-2, 6-2. Another Davis Cupper Muhammad Abid also completed a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 win against Shakir Allah and same was the case of upcoming Mudassar Murtaza who toppled A. Haider 6-3, 6-1.

Fourteen matches in Boys U-18 and nine in Boys U-14 were also played, besides 16 held in the men’s senior category.

Punjab Sports Board Director General Adnan Arshad Aulakh inaugurated the championship.
