Website review: Space view

Published November 21, 2020

In the hustle bustle of daily life, we have almost forgotten that we are part of this amazing universe full of stars and planets above us. Many of us crave to know the mysteries they possess, which is where www.viewspace.org comes in with full of fascinating knowledge about our universe. Yes, the site has interactives and videos about our universe that highlight the latest developments in astronomy and Earth science.

The interface is not cluttered and there are also no ads. You will find the homepage with a beautiful image of spiral galaxy and two options on top right side to navigate on Viewspace — the first through interactives and the second through videos. The interactives on the site will allow you to explore objects and materials present in our universe from different perspectives, you will discover how we can combine information to better understand the universe.

For instance, you will find the topics’ drop down list on the left side of the interactives’ page, clicking any will open the relative interactive, a picture with labels and a brief summary of the topic and some facts at the bottom.

One of the good things about the “interactives” is whichever interactive you open, you will find an image related to it in the centre and a ‘slider’ given below the image to see it in different perspectives. For instance, if you choose ‘star death: Helix nebula’ from the list, you can see the image in, infrared, visible to the eye, ultraviolet, x-ray and mutli-wavelength by sliding the pointer.

Videos on the site are just so many that you will find it hard to focus on any one. All the videos are full of amazing content that perhaps some of you may have never seen before; such as, history and origin of the universe, other solar systems and other earths, etc.; you can choose topics from the earth, space, or take a celestial or terrestrial tour.

According to the site creators, all the content is provided with the support of Nasa, and the site is developed by a team of scientists, educators, and communication specialists who ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date, engaging, relevant, and accessible to a wide audience.

So those of you interested in the astronomy or want to learn about the space, planets, stars and galaxy through interactive material or easy to understand videos ViewSpace will provide you the best opportunity to dig deep in the universe.

The site is free, however, the content whether videos, text or pictures have copyrights and cannot be used outside the website.
