SWABI: The police have enhanced security of government installations in the district with directions to the law enforcement personnel to remain vigilant round-the-clock to thwart any unpleasant incident, says district police officer Imran Shahid.

Talking to Dawn here, he said Mardan division police chief Sher Akbar Khan had visited Swabi a few days ago and inspected the security arrangements in the Nadra office in the district headquarters, and had directed the police to remain vigilant to deal with any eventuality.

DPO Imran Shahid said the police would not compromise on provision of security to the government employees. He said he had also visited the vital installations and the industrial units in the Gadoon Industrial Estate to take stock of the security situation there. He said the security personnel had been directed to perform their duty with complete determination.

To a question, the police chief said actions had been taken to eliminate criminal elements in the district.

WHEELCHAIRS DISTRIBUTED: The Al-Khidmat Foundation distributed wheelchairs among the special people the other day.

Speaking at a ceremony to this effect, the foundation and Jamaat-i-Islami leaders said the wheelchairs would enable the special people to independently move around. They said more such people would be given wheelchairs after collection of their data.

SHOP LOOTED: Unidentified thieves looted a jewellery shop in Karnal Sher Khan Killi on Sunday night.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Kalu Khan police station.

It was the second jewellery shop having been looted during the month. Earlier, robbers had taken gold and cash from a jewellery shop at gunpoint in a village of Chota Lahor tehsil.

Mushtaq Nabi, owner of the shop, told police that when he reached his outlet in the main Karnal Sher Khan Killi market, he found locks broken and items scattered on the ground.

He said the robbers had looted six tola gold and Rs728,000.

The Kalu Khan police registered an FIR against unknown thieves and started investigations.
